Updraft

Acrylic on canvas
Updraft reveals the structural foundation beneath my chromatic work. The upward tilt of the head introduces a quiet, suspended emotion, carried through the tension of the neck and the soft lift of the gaze. Subtle value transitions shape the form with clarity, highlighting the underlying anatomy and restraint that later supports my more saturated, expressive styles.
The hair moves with controlled energy, and the eyes and lips are rendered with a sensitivity that anchors the portrait in realism. As an early work, this piece reflects the discipline and draftsmanship that would eventually evolve into my chromatic portrait language, marking an important point in the development of my technical voice.
